Mayor David Mann and other leaders urge No on 9!

Mayor David Mann urged Cincinnatians to Vote No on 9 at an event this morning.

He was joined by former Mayors Roxanne Qualls and Arn Bortz, as well as former Vice Mayors Marian Spencer and Jim Tarbell.

The event was organized and hosted by Protect the Charter, a coalition of leading civic groups.

Representatives of the coalition also attended:
Alice Schneider, League of Women Voters President, Carolyn Miller, League of Women Voters, Chris Moran, League of Women Voters, Robert Schrage, The Cincinnatus Association, and Michael Goldman, Charter Committee.

Aronoff, Finan, Driehaus Agree: No on 9

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports:

WALNUT HILLS - Cincinnati could become an island detached from statewide and national passenger rail systems unless voters reject Issue 9 next month, current and former state legislators warned Friday.

At a news conference at a Walnut Hills cafe, two former Republican state Senate presidents and a Democratic state representative from Hamilton County said that Issue 9's requirement of public votes on the proposed Cincinnati streetcar system and other rail plans could cause state and federal officials to simply bypass the city when planning future transportation networks.
If Issue 9 is approved, former state Sen. President Stanley Aronoff said, officials in Columbus and Washington, hoping to sidestep entanglement in local politics and potentially costly delays, may begin excluding Cincinnati from future major rail plans.
"This would almost make an island of Cincinnati, where everything goes around Cincinnati," Aronoff said.

Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission Opposes Issue 9

The Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission is the latest organization to encourage a "NO" vote on issue #9. Click here to read the formal resolution and a memo to Hamilton County municipalities and Board of County Commissioners explaining the Planning Commission's opposition to Issue #9.

In the press release, the Planning Commission states that it is opposed to Issue #9 because it "would have a negative effect on the 3C Rail funding request and likely result in a passenger rail system that bypasses the core city – detracting from the future prosperity of many Hamilton County communities."
